Standard Baggage Allowance

Each Tioman SpeedBoat passenger is allowed one main bag and one small personal item. Soft-sided bags are recommended to fit the cargo area of our compact vessels.

  • Soft-sided bags preferred over hard-shell

Under your seat — stays with you
  • Handbag, laptop bag, or small backpack
  • Airline carry-on size — must fit under your seat
  • Within reach during the 90-minute crossing
  • Recommended for valuables, electronics, and medications
  • Keep travel documents and money here — not in cargo

For your main bag
  • Rear of the vessel, accessible before and after the crossing

  • Crew handles loading and unloading at jetties

  • Tioman is a tropical island — occasional sea spray is possible
Under Your Seat
For your personal item
  • Kept with you for the full 90-minute crossing
  • Easily accessible during the journey
  • Best for: wallet, passport, phone, medications, water bottle
  • Air-conditioned cabin — electronics are safe here
  • A light jacket in your personal item is recommended

Prohibited Items

The following items are not permitted on board our speedboats. Prohibited items will not be allowed at boarding — plan accordingly.

Food & Beverages
  • All outside food (per our Terms and Conditions)
  • Non-halal food items, including pork and pork-derived products
  • Durian and jackfruit — strictly prohibited due to strong odour
  • All other pungent fruits
  • Open alcohol or alcohol being consumed on board
Weapons & Dangerous Items
  • Firearms, ammunition, and explosives
  • Sharp weapons or large knives
  • Flammable materials (extra fuel, lighter fluid)
  • Toxic chemicals or hazardous materials
  • Compressed gas cylinders
Live Animals
  • Pets — dogs, cats, and birds are not permitted
  • Live fish or marine creatures
  • Insects of any kind
  • Service animals permitted with advance arrangement and documentation
Other Restricted Items
  • Charged (pressurised) dive tanks — rental available on Tioman
  • Spear guns and harpoons without valid Marine Department permits
  • Smoking in any part of the vessel — entire boat is non-smoking
  • Kayaks — transport these separately via cargo vessel

The prohibition on outside food and non-halal items applies out of respect for all passengers’ cultures and religious beliefs. Please eat before boarding or wait until you arrive at Tioman. Sealed alcohol in your main bag is permitted — Tioman is a duty-free island.

Diving Equipment
  • BCDs, regulators, masks, fins — permitted in main baggage
  • Wetsuits — permitted, pack compactly
  • Charged (pressurised) tanks — NOT permitted on speedboat
  • Arrange tank rental on Tioman with your dive operator
  • Spear guns / harpoons require valid Marine Department permit
Medical Equipment
  • Wheelchairs and mobility aids — free of charge, always accepted
  • Walking frames, crutches — permitted
  • Oxygen cylinders (medical use) — advance notice required
  • Medical refrigerated items — advance notice recommended
  • Contact us ahead of travel to arrange medical accommodations
Sporting Equipment
  • Snorkelling sets — permitted in main baggage
  • Surfboards — permitted, contact us for sizing confirmation

Over the limit?

Excess Baggage

Passengers travelling with unusually heavy luggage or multiple bags should contact us in advance to confirm acceptance and avoid delays at the jetty.

Heavy Items — Over 20 kg
Acceptance of bags over 20 kg is at the operator’s discretion and subject to vessel space on the day. An excess baggage fee may apply. To guarantee acceptance, notify us before your travel date. Last-minute requests at the jetty may be declined if space is limited.
Multiple Bags
Additional bags beyond the standard 1 main bag + 1 personal item are subject to space availability and may incur additional fees. Groups and families travelling with extensive baggage should contact us in advance so we can confirm capacity for your sailing.

If something goes wrong

Lost or Damaged Baggage

If your baggage is lost or damaged during the speedboat journey, act quickly. The sooner you report, the faster we can assist.

Report Immediately
Notify the crew before disembarking at your destination jetty. Provide your booking reference and a description of the bag. Take photos of any visible damage on the spot.

Submit Your Claim
Email hello@tiomanspeedboat.com within 24 hours of the journey. Include your booking reference, photographs of the damage, and receipts or declared value for any affected items.

Compensation Review
Compensation is assessed subject to our Terms and Conditions. We also recommend checking your travel insurance policy, which may provide additional coverage for baggage loss or damage. Contact 60198301228 for assistance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much baggage can I bring on Tioman SpeedBoat?
Each passenger can bring 1 main bag (recommended 20 kg max) plus 1 small personal item (handbag, laptop bag, or small backpack). Heavier or additional baggage may be accepted at operator discretion with advance arrangement.
Can I bring durian on Tioman SpeedBoat?
No. Durian and other pungent fruits including jackfruit are strictly prohibited on board our speedboats. Most Tioman accommodations also prohibit durian in rooms.
Can I bring food on the speedboat?
Outside food is not permitted on board out of respect for all cultures and religious beliefs. Eat before boarding or wait until you arrive at Tioman. Non-halal food items are also strictly prohibited.
Can I bring my own diving equipment?
