Child and Infant Tickets
Tioman SpeedBoat operates three passenger fare categories — Adult, Child, and Infant. Each has specific seating arrangements, documentation requirements, and boarding rules. This guide covers everything families need to know before booking.
Three Passenger Fare Categories
Age is calculated on the date of travel, not the booking date. A child turning 12 the day before sailing pays the adult fare. Confirm all birth dates before booking.
| Category | Age Range | Fare | Seating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adult | 12 years and above | Full standard fare | Own seat assigned |
| Child | 2 to under 12 years | Discounted child fare | Own seat assigned |
| Infant | 30 days to under 2 years | Lowest infant fare | Adult’s lap only |
- Original government-issued photo ID — mandatory for boarding
- Malaysian adults: original NRIC card
- Non-Malaysian adults: original passport
- Responsible for any accompanying minors at all times
- Must be accompanied by a responsible adult (18+ years)
- Malaysian children: original NRIC card (mandatory)
- Non-Malaysian children: original passport (mandatory)
- Original birth certificate may be required as proof of age
- Must wear life jacket as instructed by crew
- Must be at least 30 days old on date of travel
- Only one infant per accompanying adult — strictly enforced
- Original birth certificate mandatory (proves date of birth)
- Lap-held by accompanying adult throughout entire crossing
- No photo ID required — birth certificate is sufficient
Travelling with Infants
Infants have specific safety requirements that apply for the full duration of the crossing. Please read these rules carefully before booking family travel.
“Infants aged between 30 days and under 2 years (24 months) on the date of travel may travel at the infant fare and must be seated on an accompanying adult’s lap throughout the crossing. Only one (1) infant is permitted per accompanying adult.”
One infant per adult — no exceptions. If you are travelling with two infants, two accompanying adults must be booked on the same sailing. This rule is strictly enforced for the safety of all passengers on board.
Minimum age is 30 days. Newborns under 30 days old are not permitted to travel on our speedboats for safety and health reasons. If you have concerns about travelling with a young infant, consult your paediatrician before booking.
Original birth certificate is mandatory. The original must be presented at boarding to confirm the infant’s date of birth. Photocopies are not accepted. Photo ID is not required for infants — the birth certificate alone is sufficient for boarding.
How to Book Family Tickets
Booking for children and infants uses the same online process as adult tickets. Age category and passenger details are entered during checkout.
Required Documents for Boarding
Original documents are mandatory. Photocopies are not accepted. Passengers without the correct original document may be denied boarding.
| Passenger Type | Required Document |
|---|---|
| Adult (Malaysian) | Original NRIC |
| Adult (Non-Malaysian) | Original passport |
| Child 12+ (Malaysian) | Original NRIC |
| Child 12+ (Non-Malaysian) | Original passport |
| Child 2–12 (Malaysian) | Original NRIC or original birth certificate |
| Child 2–12 (Non-Malaysian) | Original passport or original birth certificate |
| Infant (any nationality) | Original birth certificate — mandatory |
Photocopies are not accepted at boarding. Ensure every family member’s original ID or birth certificate is packed and accessible on the day of travel. Laminated IDs and expired documents are also not accepted.
Family Travel Tips
From our team’s experience helping hundreds of families reach Tioman Island.
- Confirm exact birth dates for all children — age is calculated on the date of travel, not the booking date.
- Verify all IDs and birth certificates are originals and will be available on travel day before completing payment.
- A child turning 12 the day before sailing pays the adult fare. Factor this into your cost estimate when comparing dates.
- For 2 infants, you need 2 accompanying adults — the one-infant-per-adult rule applies to each booked sailing.
- Pack snacks for children to eat at the jetty before boarding — outside food is not permitted on board.
- Bring a change of clothes for infants and young children in your personal item, not stored in the cargo hold.
- The cabin is air-conditioned for the 60-minute crossing. A light jacket or blanket for infants is recommended.
- For children prone to motion sickness, mid-morning sailings tend to have calmer sea conditions. Bring appropriate medication if needed.
Special Family Bookings
For larger groups, families with multiple infants, or single-parent travel, here is what you need to know before arriving at the jetty.
Each child aged 2 to under 12 requires their own seat. Infants under 2 are lap-held and do not occupy a seat booking.
- All children must travel with at least one accompanying adult
- For 4 or more children, contact us for group booking support
- Groups of 10+ (including children) may qualify for group rates — email us
The one-infant-per-adult rule is strictly enforced for the safety of all passengers.
- 1 infant requires a minimum of 1 accompanying adult
- 2 infants require 2 accompanying adults on the same sailing
- Infant must be at least 30 days old on the date of travel
Single parents and guardians travelling alone with children are fully permitted with the correct documentation.
- All required original IDs and birth certificates must be present
- Non-passport guardians may face additional verification at boarding
